IMP³rove is a four year project which started at the beginning of 2006. It involves:



IMP³rove involves intermediaries and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in:
  • Benchmarking existing Innovation Management consulting approaches and self-assessment tools
  • Developing a state of the art innovation management consulting methodology and online self-assessment tools to enable access to funding for SMEs
  • Conducting field tests of the tools developed and interviewing a minimum of 1500 SMEs covering 25 countries in more than 8 sectors and over 30 regions with the active participation of European intermediaries consulting SMEs in innovation management


The project will address all innovation key areas as described in the "House of Innovation' (A.T. Kearney)

A wide range of industry sectors will be covered by IMP³rove:

  • Chemicals and pharmaceuticals Information and
    Communication Technologies
  • Mechanical engineering, plant constructions
  • Road, air, rail, sea transportation
  • Services
  • Financial and business services
  • Textile and textile products
  • Food products, beverages and tobacco


IMP³rove will work towards the creation of:

  • A European online self-assessment tool (SAT) that allows enterprises to benchmark their capability to manage the innovation process against other European enterprises.
  • A toolkit in support of innovation management that shall be used by innovation facilitators at regional and national level.


In addition, the project will lay the foundation for a European Innovation Management certification system that builds on the newly defined self-assessment tool and the experience gathered from IMP³rove.
