'Bridging the gap between INnovative enterprises and financial InVEstors in the emerging ICT markets of SaTellite applications'

Innovative services in the ICT sectors of the US, Japan and Europe already figure large scale space-based investments. They include earth observation, telecommunications, navigation, and timing and positioning satellites.

With the advent of powerful handheld terminals and demand for ubiquitous services, info-mobility applications will provide new sources of business. GMES, EGNOS and future GALILEO systems will be used to position any feature or user anywhere in the world. Satellite based capabilities will be new and unique opportunities for Europe to enhance economic development in the knowledge economy.

Although many small companies in Europe have already recognised the opportunities, actual business growth rates in Europe are low.. Europe must seize these new business opportunities with alacrity and begin to have a greater economic impact.

The overarching goal of the INVESat project is to:
Consolidate and disseminate in a coordinated way, the knowledge components required to stimulate and support more efficient investment in innovative services exploiting satellite capabilities in earth observation, navigation, timing, geo-positioning and telecommunications.

There are 5 specific objectives:
  • To identify the critical generic and specific innovation financing features of SME-based business models involving application of Europe's satellite capabilities
  • To reinforce and extend the connections of the ESINET network to European investors willing to invest in innovative services using satellite capabilities
  • To develop and validate specific good practice, guidelines and tools designed for entrepreneurs, incubators or investors willing to finance innovative services using satellite capabilities
  • To disseminate results to stakeholders (ranging from companies involved in satellite developments and operations, to regional investors or entrepreneurs looking at the development of new and innovative services using capabilities)
  • To prepare and policy recommendations regarding public-private partnerships involving satellite capabilities, highlighting the value data for the enlarged Europe.
