Europe INNOVA is an extrovert initiative. Its aim is to evaluate external information and expertise to become better documented. Input from high level European experts is very valuable. For this reason Sectoral Innovation Panels (SIPs) are a central element of the Sectoral Innovation Watch (SIW) project and the Europe INNOVA initiative.
Sectoral Innovation Watch aspires to provide policy-makers and stakeholders with a more comprehensive understanding of sectoral innovation performance, including barriers, drivers and challenges across the European Union. The Panels will complement these analytical findings with sector-specific priorities for action, and will formulate questions and issues to be tackled by Europe INNOVA.
The work of the Panels will not be restricted to the results of the SIW; they will discuss other 'hot' innovation policy issues. For example, the first innovation panels (see relevant agenda) will comment on the newly released 'Aho report' and on IPR sectoral issues. Each SIP will provide a structured policy document to outline the main conclusions and recommendations for better policy formulation focusing on innovation policy efficiency.
Panels will be organised to cover 8 industry sectors or fields: aerospace, automotive, ICT, biotechnology, eco-innovation, energy, textile and gazelles (High Growth SMEs). They will include experts on innovation matters (see members) with a good knowledge of the sectors. Each Sectoral Innovation Panel of a maximum ten participants (chairman and members) plus a number of observers (up to three) will come together in closed meetings.
